Growing up in the US and studying Japanese since he was five, Nichi hated his Japanese school, Shukugashima. He always believed there was an easier, more helpful way to teach it than theirs, so he decided to start teaching on his own, the way he wished he'd been taught.

He asks a thousand questions and loves a good conversation. He'll always nudge you to speak to people, because to Nichi the whole point is connection: that, and a little music in the background. Every chat shapes the next lesson, built just for you.

Fun, playful and bursting with energy, Kaito learns by doing: acting it out, moving around, making it loud. Lessons with him never sit still. (And yes, he runs on matcha.)

Nichi picked Kaito up on his journey to take down Shukugashima, the evil school. They've been a team ever since.

Earth name John Mammal, alien name Ramaru. He's observational, reflective and thoughtful. He'd rather watch, picture it, and quietly understand before he speaks.

He landed on planet Earth and was cast aside by the other humans. Nichi picked him up, and now, more than anything, Ramaru wants to understand people.

Aotarosuアオタロス

Shy, self-conscious and easily embarrassed, but quietly knowledgeable. Speaking out loud makes him nervous, so he hides under a blanket to feel like no one's judging him, and lets his writing do the talking.

Nichi picked Aotarosu up because he was moved by the little bird's poems.

Shirotarosuシロタロス

Where Aotarosu (青, blue) writes, Shirotarosu (白, white) reads. Tucked under his blanket with a book always in hand, he's the calm, well-read half of the pair, happiest soaking up a story before saying a word.

He listens far more than he speaks, and when he does, it's usually a line he loved from something he read.
